For people who use their voice
as a tool, not a feature.

Tell Eddy. Eddy tells you back — now, or later on your phone.

macOS 14+ · Apple Silicon · Free 14-day trial

New in TellEddy

Drop it in. Listen anywhere.

Articles, emails, anything readable — into Eddy’s queue on Mac, into your ears on the train.

01

Drop it in.

Right-click any text, share from your browser, paste from anywhere. Things land in the queue with a thumbnail and a clean title.

02

Eddy gets it ready.

Pick the voice — one of Eddy’s own (free) or one of yours from OpenAI, Cartesia, or ElevenLabs. Eddy turns it into audio while you keep working.

03

Across to your iPhone.

Your iPhone picks the queue up over your own iCloud — encrypted by Apple, scoped to you. Nothing passes through us.

04

Play. Scrub. Share.

Podcast-style controls on Mac and iPhone. Send a single item to a friend with a link — they don’t need Eddy to listen.

Bring your own voice

Your key. Your voice. Your bill.

Five voices to pick from — some free on your Mac, others on your own account with the provider. Pay nothing, or pay what you’d pay anyway.

Apple won’t let you plug your own ElevenLabs account into their dictation. Eddy will.

Built for how you actually work

Eddy doesn’t lose your words.

The small things other dictation apps drop — pasting into the wrong app, juggling a clipboard, fumbling a focus — Eddy just handles.

  • Type while you talk. Keep typing in the Eddy notepad while you dictate — neither one runs over the other.
  • Never lose a dictation. Pasted into the wrong app? Open the menu bar; your last one is still there.
  • Different voices for different apps. Email gets one voice, Slack gets another. Eddy remembers.
  • Your clipboard stays put. Have a screenshot copied? Dictating somewhere won’t clobber it.
  • Gentle nudges, not error sounds. No place for your words to land? Eddy lets you know quietly — no system beep.

A little company while you work

A weekly note, not a dashboard.

Eddy notices your streaks, your milestones, the hour of the day you do your best work — and reads it back to you on Sunday morning.

  • The Eddy Report. A short weekly recap — your streak, your milestones, the time of day you do your best work.
  • Quiet little wins. Small celebrations as you cross milestones — there when you want them, gone when you don’t.
  • Five themes. Hearth, Summit, Alpine Dawn, Dusk, Chestnut. Pick the one that fits the room.
  • A friend, not a chrome plate. Eddy speaks lowercase. Eddy doesn’t shout. Eddy is on your side.

Day to day

Talk to it. Let it talk to you.

Hold to talk.

Hold a key, speak, let go. Your words appear right where the cursor is — in any app, any text field.

Free on your Mac by default. Your voice never leaves the laptop unless you choose to send it to a cloud voice.

The TellEddy dictation window: 'listening…', a live waveform, and the transcribed text appearing.

Highlight to listen.

Highlight any text, tap a key, and Eddy reads it back through your speakers.

Eddy’s own voices are free. Want OpenAI, Cartesia, or ElevenLabs? Paste in your account — they show up in the picker.

The TellEddy read-aloud window with transport controls, a voice selector, and the text being read aloud.

How it works

Four small habits.

1

Install Eddy

Drag him into Applications, paste in the code I send you. About thirty seconds, start to finish.

2

Pick a voice

Start free with Eddy’s own voices. If you have an OpenAI, Cartesia, or ElevenLabs account, paste it in and you’ll see those voices in the picker too.

3

Tell Eddy

Hold your shortcut, talk, let go. Your words appear right where you’re typing.

4

Let Eddy read back

Highlight some text, tap, listen — right now, or queued up for the train ride home.

Across surfaces

Your queue follows you.

The TellEddy companion app on iPhone is free and picks up your Mac queue automatically. No servers in between.

  • Free on the App Store — no purchase, no trial. Save articles on the go, or play what you queued on your Mac.
  • Syncs over your own iCloud — encrypted by Apple, scoped to you, nothing routed through us.
  • Familiar player: 15s back, 30s forward, a scrub bar, and a speed control.
  • Share any one piece with a friend over a link — they don’t need Eddy to listen.

Privacy

Your Mac is your business.

Stays on your Mac by default. Eddy’s own voices and Apple’s voices both run right on your laptop. Your voice never leaves it — unless you choose to use a cloud voice.

Your accounts, your bill. Cloud voices (OpenAI, Cartesia, ElevenLabs, Anthropic) connect straight from your Mac to those providers on your own account. No TellEddy server in the middle. Your account details stay in your Mac’s keychain.

Listen Later syncs through your iCloud. Your queue moves between Mac and iPhone over your own iCloud — encrypted by Apple, scoped to you. We have no servers, no analytics on what you queue or listen to, and no view into any of it.
